We are 100% Irish owned based in Limerick city centre.

Vision 2 Opticians are dedicated to providing a quality eye care service in a friendly professional environment, using only highly qualified practitioners in a manner that delivers real value to our clients.

Established in 2002, we started with 1 Optometrist and 2 support staff and we are very proud to say 21 years later we have 2 Optometrists, 2 Dispensing Opticians one of whom is also a Contact lens Optician and a very experienced professional team who manage our lab/ customer care/ frame & stock orders/ administration/ social media/ website and accounts.

Vision 2 Opticians are continually expanding its product portfolio endeavouring to offer the best products available at competitive pricing. Our Sarsfield St store is a modern building which gave us great scope to plan our lay out and develop Vision 2 for the future. We have incorporated space for new eye care instruments which help to detect eye disease earlier/ large frame displays and an extended lab space where we glaze 95% of our glasses.

Vision 2 Opticians is a premier supplier of Optical services to the Mid- west region and has formed strong working relationships with many of the leading Optical businesses and manufacturers both at home and abroad.

Meet Our Team

Orlaith Ryan FAOI
Clinical Optometrist and Director

Orlaith qualified as an Optometrist from Dublin DIT – now TU Dublin – in 1990. She received a Gold Medal from the Association of Optometrists for outstanding academic achievement.

Being from Limerick where her family owned a retail Jewellery store (Ryans Jewellers) she always dreamed of setting up an optical business in her native city. She worked in various Optical practices before opening Vision 2 Opticians in 2002.

Having a passion for all things optical Orlaith is enthusiastic about Eye Health, Contact Lenses, Paediatrics and Dry Eye management. She is a strong advocate for our OCT instrument which allows her to view the deeper layers of the back of the eye and see any early pathological changes.

Orlaith is actively involved in every part of Vison 2. She ensures we provide the most up to date technology regarding eye exam equipment, lenses and frames. She visits International Eyewear exhibitions to source new frames and bring the latest contemporary models to Limerick.

She actively engages in CPD (Continuous Professional Development) and attends business conferences to ensure she is fully up to date with all the new advances in Optometry.

Clinical Optometrist

Sarah qualified as an Optometrist from Dublin DIT – now TU Dublin- in 1997 where she was awarded the prestigious Harte Barry prize for the highest grade in her final exams.

Having worked in practices throughout Ireland and the UK, originally from Arklow, she has been in the West of the country since 2006 and has been an integral member of the Vision 2 team, starting in our Henry Street practice in 2010 and moving with Orlaith to our new premises in Sarsfield St.

Sarah has a keen interest in all aspects of Optometry including Contact Lenses, Paediatrics and Dry Eye management. She enjoys using our OCT instrument which allows her to view the deeper layers of the back of the eye and see any early pathological changes.

She is constantly expanding her knowledge with CPD (Continuous Professional Development) to ensure she is fully up to date with all the new advances in Optometry.

Lorraine joined the team in 2020 as the Managing Dispensing Optician. She qualified in 2003 from ABDO in the UK and has added an impressive list of qualifications to her name since – her full title being FBDO (Hons) SLD SMC (Tech).

She has an expanse of knowledge in spectacle lens design and is an expert at matching the perfect prescription lens for your needs, no matter how specific or complex. She is most passionate about quality lens design and has spent much of her time researching the physics behind the lenses we dispense to our patients with the aid of her Honours Degree in Spectacle Lens Design.

Lorraine can be found in the Eye Exam room fitting contact lenses or on the floor taking precise frame and lens measurements. She is constantly expanding her knowledge through CPD (Continuous Professional Development)  and has most recently specialised in dry eye assessments. She is very excited to launch and run Dry Eye Clinics at Vision 2 Opticians.

Dispensing Optician

Áine started with Vision 2 in 2021 as a pre-reg Dispensing Optician and qualified from TU Dublin in 2022. She has a wealth of information and enjoys all aspects of dispensing, from frame choice to complicated prescriptions.

She has a special interest in Low Vision and aids to assist patients with low vision and has visited NCBI during her dispensing training. She particularly enjoys finding the correct glasses for young children and special needs adults.

In the summer of 2022, she travelled to America and worked with an Optical Practice there to gain international experience. She is very active updating our social media platforms with interesting and current content.

She is constantly expanding her training with CPD (Continuous professional development) to ensure she is fully up to date with all the new advances in dispensing frames and lens design.

Laura Andersen

Optical Assistant

Laura joined Vision 2 in 2006. As our longest serving member of our team, she has built an excellent rapport with our loyal patients over the years.

She liaises with our frame representatives and ensures our stock inventory and system is kept up to date. She is an expert in every aspect of Vision 2 from dispensing to glazing and has a gift for choosing the perfect frame for patients. She is particularly skilled in repairing glasses and can restore nearly any frame to its original glory.

Laura has been an integral part of developing and maintaining our website over the years and is proud to be very involved in designing and launching our new website.

Gill McGonigle

Lab Manager

Gill joined Vision 2 in 2016 as our Lab manager. Having never worked in Optics before she has now become an expert in handling all our lab requirements from ordering specialised spectacle lenses and glazing into our frames in our modern lab.

She undertook an Optical training course in 2019 which gives a closer insight into spectacle lens designs and frame choices. She is qualified in First Aid/Community cardiac first response and recently updated her certification having successfully completed a Pre- hospital Emergency Care Council course.

She liaises with our frame representatives and ensures our stock inventory and system is kept up to date. She is very enthusiastic and efficient and any query you may have may be solved by Gill.

Fionagh Ryan

Accounts Manager

Fionagh joined Vision 2 in 2021 to run our Accounts department. She has over 20 years’ experience in retail management and accounts, and she has streamlined the behind-the-scenes procedures and paperwork to ensure a much more efficient system. Together with Orlaith (her sister) she facilitated the movement of our account system online and communicates with our accountants to keep all entries up to date.

She has an immense wealth of knowledge of customer care and sense of style so you may occasionally find her on the floor helping patients choose their glasses.

Instore Lab

Our in-store lab contains the most up to date equipment on the current market.

The advantage to you, our customer, is that we can provide a same day service for most stock prescriptions. All our glazing goes through rigorous quality control, and our fully trained staff will make the final adjustments when you collect your spectacles, to ensure that they are comfortable and easy to wear.
