OCT 3D Retinal Scanning Technology

OCT Retinal Scanning Technology can detect potentially serious conditions that affect your overall health.

Vision 2 Opticians are delighted to have this state-of-the-art instrument that scans through 10 layers of the retina (the light sensitive layer at the back of the eye) and gives our Clinical Optometrists a 3D image of the inside of your eye and helps us to detect any changes that may threaten your eyesight now or in the future.

What is Involved?

This scan is easy to conduct; is non-invasive, painless, simple, and only takes a few minutes to complete.
It is suitable for people of all ages, and it can pick up eye problems at a much earlier stage, usually allowing you better treatment options and a better visual result.

What can the scan check for?

Common conditions identified through regular OCT screening include:

  • Macular Degeneration
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetes – Eye complications

Why would I do it?

Many other eye conditions can also be diagnosed with OCT and of course it can also confirm that all is well and the eye is healthy.

For example, OCT can be used to differentiate between the wet and dry types of macular degeneration which can help to decide whether treatment may be possible.

Any areas that may be unusual can then be measured and, later repeat scans can be lined up with the original so that changes are measured in an accurate way.

We would recommend any person over 40 especially with Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Cataracts and Diabetes or a family history of these conditions to have their eyes scanned and imaged.
